    The black is soot from the flame.

    It’s called "candle black".

    It just means that the glass is too close to the flame.

    that the wick is too long. Make sure it’s not longer than a quarter inch from the wax.

    In the old times, it meant bad luck. But in modern times it just means that you lit the candle too long. It is a question though!

    its from the smoke.. one time when i was little i tried to clean it off while the candle was still lit and i caught a kleenex on fire. that was funny.

    This soot which is mainly comprised of carbon and due to incomplete combustion.
