I am wanting to start making wax tarts and have been researching things online. I do have a few questions though. About how many tarts will 1 lb of wax make. How much scent will i need? is it smart to buy scents and product online? is it better to go to a candle supply store? anything anyone can tell me or any other information or good websites would be great. thank you.
Also i have read that walmart sells blocks of wax for candle making. Is it alright quality? Is candle wax candle wax no matter what?

It is best to get your supplies from a real candle supplies such as http://www.candlesandsupplies.com or one that is local to you. This site http://www.suppliersbystate.com is good for finding site near you.

Generally tarts are about 2 – 4 oz or so, so 1 lb (16 oz) will make about 4 – 8 tarts. Do not exceed the wax’s max scent load as it will cause your tarts to "weep" scent.

There are many different types of candle wax and blends. They are not all created equal.

See some of the other links I posted in answer to one of your other questions for more information!

    Hope this helps!

This site’s ‘candlemaking 101′ has lots of useful info.

One question you may want to consider first is whether you prefer to use paraffin wax (petroleum product) or soy wax (vegetable product), especially if you’re thinking of selling – soy is often considered ‘greener’ in that it’s renewable, natural, and burns cleaner and more completely than paraffin, but some say it’s a little harder to work with. Unless the block of wax at WalMart is labeled ‘soy’, it’s paraffin.
As for buying scents especially online, you don’t have the opportunity to smell them before ordering, but you’re apt to find a more extensive variety of ‘flavors’ and qualities.
    Another useful website is ‘about.com’.
