How do you add coloring to wax used for candle making and dipping?

I tried using food coloring but it didn’t work. The food color first sat at top of hot wax and then sank and would not mix. Yes, I am a beginner using wax and am trying to figure out how to do this.

    I have used crayons, but I had an abundance of crayons. I’m not sure its the best method, but it worked for making candles with kids.

    I cheat! I go to the goodwill and buy up all the used candles for cheap.
    I know this does not answer your question but I am going to watch this question. So I can learn too :0)

    I just made candles for the first time a couple of days age…What i did is save up old candles and i melted into the new wax and if you go to the crafty stores they do have coloring you can add. I bought a few colors and they do work.
