I’m guilty when it comes to spending way too much money on candles.. I love the atmostphere when they are lit, as well as making my home smell nice! However, since being laid off from my previous career and being forced back into school, I now feel guilty splurging on anything but the necessities.
Now for my question. I have a ton of glass votives in varying sizes and shapes from old candles, each with about an inch of wax left. Can i re-use these votives by purchasing a basic candle-making kit (wax, wick, and scents) and just pouring the melted wax in them? I’m not particularly interesting in getting different molds since I do have all these half-empty candle votives that would work just as well if I were to clean them out and re-use them. Has anyone out there done this before?
Yes, you can certainly re-use the votive holders. Since you have been laid off if you are looking to make a little extra money you could clean them up and make crafts with them by painting on them with glass paints, decoupaging designs, etc. and sell them at craft shows.
If you hate to give up your enjoyment of candles, some other things you might want to consider:
Earn free candles either by hosting a candle party or by doing a "catalog" party and earning free candles by collecting orders from family, friends and neighbors
OR
You might want to consider is signing up to be an independent distributor/rep for a candle company. As a rep/distributor you can buy candles at the distributor price (usually about half price) You could also sell them to make some extra income or at least pay for your own candles!
Some of the candle companies that use independent reps include:
Gold Canyon
Mia Bella
Partylite
This is a lot of fun. You can even use the wax that is in the old votives. Just put the votives into the freezer for about an hour and then the remaining candle will slide right out of the votive. You can melt these down and reuse them with your candle making kit. They have all kinds of scents (oils) that you can use to scent your candles. The oils are clear so you can use either colored wax or use food coloring to dye the waxes to be whatever color you want them to be.
Candle making is a lot of fun, soap making is fun too. Have fun, and expiriment with it…
