I would like to make homemade candles for my wedding reception. I would like to make them in sea shells or oyster shells. They have to be red. I know that craft stores have candle wax. I know there are a few kinds of wax. I would appreciate it if someone could talk me through the details :D

  1. It's just me says:

The most difficult thing about poured candles is getting the wicks to stand upright. What you should have is some kind of vice above the shells to hold the wicks in place. One way to do this is by using a locking vice gripe atop a stack of books. But they do make racks you’d probably like better since you’re doing a lot of candles. Leave the wicks long, you can trim them when they’re dry.

Then you melt the wax in a pyrex container in the microwave. The wax needs to be completely liquid and HOT else you’ll get bubbles. Add your dye, then pour slooooowly (to avoid bubbles) into the shell. The wicks should already be in place when you pour. Then let them dry. Remove the vice, trim the wick to 1 inch, wrap in cellophane. Voila!
