I have been using my candle warmer to heat Slatkin & Co. candles, and have been finding drops of wax as far as 2-3 feet away on things. I am not blowing the candles out, since I am using a warmer, so it’s not like I’m blowing the wax everywhere. Why is this happening?
I’ve used like, 4 different candles, though I’m not sure if they’ve all done it.
I don’t know specifically about Slatkin candles, but many candle companies do NOT recommend using candle warmers with their candles for several reasons -
There is a lot of difference between the warming plate temperatures of various brands of candle warmers and some may get the wax too hot and cause the wax to bubble and spit.
When using a candle warmer with a heating plate, the wax on the bottom will warm first and expand as it heats while the wax at the top remains cold and solid. The cold wax at the top doesn’t allow anyplace for the warm wax on the bottom to expand. The pressure can cause the glass jar to crack or break potentially resulting in damage or injuries.
If you burn the candle down at least half way before using the warmer, it is less hazardous.
If you want to enjoy candles without the flame, you might want to consider buying a simmer pot and use wickless melts or tarts instead of candles. If you have a large enough simmer pot, you can also melt votive candles in them.
Well it could be bubbling if the candle has air pockets in it. Have you tried using a different candle to see if it still happens?
