I am a HUGE candle junkie and don’t mind paying more money than most people would for a candle of GOOD quality. I’ve always avoided Yankee Candle because of quite a few bad reviews and stories I’ve heard from friends and family. It seems the main issue is problems with "tunneling" which leaves large amounts of unusable wax on the sides of the jar. I’m wondering if their tumblers…which have 2 wicks rather than one….would burn better. I do like the scents from this company and their semi annual sale starts in a week so I’m trying to decide if I should try them out.

*Also, I don’t really tips on different candle companies to try. I’m familiar with a large majority of them. I also know that soy candles burn better…but again, I’m JUST wanting to know about the Yankee Candles in this question. 10pts for best answer!

i want to know about candle making?

i have some perfumed oil that i just love and a bunch of unscented candle wax and wicks to make candles…can i add the oil to the wax to make a scented candle? if so, how much oil to how much wax? thanks for any help…

All About Candles and Candle making. Do you know any of the answers?

I am making a small business out of candles. Mostly the molding and sculpting of them. I have been experimenting in beeswax and ordinary wax, and I have used 2 different styles of wicking (Both wicks with end-clips and a wire core, and a cheap long string wick that came with a few of the molds that I have bought). I have questions in order that I may know more about wicks, wax, and candles for further experimenting and understanding.

First; What are the main purposes of the wire at the core most commercial wicks? What type of metal is usually used? Steel? Aluminum? Does the type of metal matter? I have noted that the wire helps in keeping the wick rigid while molding and while it’s burning, but are there other reasons for it?

Second; What are some of the materials that are used in most wicks? Is it just generic string? Or is it actually something specially designed for candles?

Third; Where does the wax go as it is burned? Does it evaporate? If so, I have noticed that bigger candles (wider than 2 inch in diameter) tend to burn much slower. Is this because of the wick?

or
Does a candle’s wax actually become fuel for the flame as it melts and pools around the wick? This would explain the lengthier burning of larger candles and where the wax goes as the candle burns.

Fourth; Is it bad to put the candle out and relight it too many times? I have noted that when this is done, especially in wider candles, the wax melts differently and can become unstable if it burns further inward without actually melting the outermost wax.

Fifth; Does melting the wax too many times change it’s physical properties? Does it become brittle? Or does it become soft? And could it eventually become useless for making candles with?

If so what do you suggest is the maximum times the wax should be melted? What is the maximum temperature that you suggest I bring the wax to while molding? I’ve noticed that with beeswax, about 180 F and ordinary wax, 190 F is when it begins to boil (as long as I keep stirring the wax and keeping the temperature evenly distributed). I usually pour the wax into my molds at these temperatures.

A chart of optimum wax temperatures would greatly help if one exists. I just want to understand it as much as I can because the trial and error process is all I have to use as a guide. And so far I have spent a lot of time and effort making quite a few plain votive and taper candles… but, I do not want to do anything that is going to waste money or ruin raw materials or tools.

THANKS FOR THE HELP

Would it hurt to make new candles with used candle wax?

This may seem like a stupid question, but I was wanting to make a three color-layered candle. I was wondering if I can use the wicks I have from when I had a candle-making party and melt down candles I already have that didn’t come out right.
Thanks to all of you. I thought I might be able to, but wasn’t quite sure.

where is the best place to buy wax for candle making?

I’m wanting to try to make candles and need to know where is the best place to buy wax ,oils, and ,wicks online ,please and thank you =]

Wedding Reception Ideas!?!?

So at my wedding during the dance we’re having a guy from my church do the music. He has a sweet sound system but no lighting like most dances. SO I was wondering if anyone has any great ideas about decorating just for the dance. The whole room is going to be decorated GORGEOUS!!! But for the dance they’re going to clear out some tables and make room to dance on the dance floor. And I was thinking having like pillars- About 3 feet tall with a large round candle about 1 foot tall with a 7-10 in diameter with 3 wicks in it.

I dont know how to explain this…..

Imagine the dance floor… closest to the wall, and then on each side of the dance floor on the left and right edges NOT on the edge on the wall having two pillars on each side with these candles and then maybe two more pillars at the end of the dance floor like opposit from the wall.

Oh I hope thats not too confusing!! I would love and appreciate Any ideas!!!!

Thanks!

Is it okay to use a glass candle holder as a water dish for a pet?

I believe I’ve read warnings not to use the container for anything else besides candles in the past, but I don’t know if that’s because the wicks contain lead, the glass itself contains lead, or because the glass becomes weakened by the constant heating and cooling from lighting and extinguishing the flames, therefore may shatter easily. My bf’s family has a clean candle holder (it once contained a scented candle) that they use for the family’s bunny’s water. I was just a little worried about the bunny’s health as I don’t want poor bun-buns to get lead poisoning! I couldn’t find anything on google concerning this subject. Thanks in advance!

What kind of wick do I need for soy jar candles?

I am making candles, and wonder what is the best wick, and at what size jar should I use 2 wicks?

Wanted: advice on candle making?

I have some left over wax from some Chinese candles purchased at Walmart. I purchased some wicks online thinking I could melt the wax and make a new candle with the leftover wax. However the resulting candle flame would be very weak. I assume either this would be a problem with the wicks used or the use of left over wax. Are there different kinds of wicks? Different kind of wax? Any constructive recommendations?
