For my wedding I am having votive candles around my centerpiece I have votive holders for them, but there is a problem! It is an outdoor wedding and the candles go to the top of the holders, which means I am going to be re-lighting them every time a breeze comes through. I had the idea to melt the votive candle in the candle holders in the oven. I am not sure exactly how to do this. Has anyone tried this before??
Please Help!
DONT DO IT IT IS EXTREMLEY DANGEROUS
Hi i dont want to scare you but that is one of the most dangerous things to do with candle wax i know as i make candles and am in the process of uploading my items to a new web shop i started if you need to cut them down remove the wick first use a hot knife to cut to desired height but remember the votive holders are tapered so you need to use the bottom half of cut votive once you have cut to desired height replace wick and trim down you need to make sure the wick substainer(the metal wick holder) is at the bottom of candle still as this helps keep the wick upright during burning
The answer is; don't do it. They won't melt consistently throughout and you'll risk wrecking (possibly breaking) your holders. Glass holders were not intended to be heated throughout and could shatter.
Two possible solutions:
- Warm the cutting end of butter knife (carefully) and cut off enough of the bottom of the candle so that the wick falls at least 1/2" below the top of the holder.
- If they are the large (3" dia or larger) variety you'll need a small wax saw which you can usually purchase at a craft store that sells candle making supplies.
Good luck!
you DO NOT want to melt them in your oven! buy yourself enough lamp chimneys to protect the votives from a hardware or craft store. but it may just be cheaper to buy taller votive holders. you could check with a candle store to see if they would make / pour candles in your votive holders for you, maybe tint the wax to match your dress, or scent them to your favorite flower? a candle shop that i know has a great wedding section is at; http://www.honeycombhollowcandles.com. they have great scented candles, too, my girlfriend loves them, check them out. best wishes, and good luck with the candles!
