I want to wire it directley into the exsisting overhead wiring so the lantern can be turned on with the wall lightswitch. I’ve wired lanterns with a cord to plug into a walled outlet. How different is it to wire into the existing overhead wires?

   Basically the same. Black to black, White to white. To be on the safe side, attach a ground wire to lantern frame and wire into box.
