I’m renewing my wedding vows next weekend and have already created the table centerpieces. Here is a description: Clear Bubble Glass Pedestal Hurricane Candle Holders – 12"h x 6"w – filled first at bottom with 3 inches whole coffee beans, then 1 inch of fresh cranberries, surrounding a 6"hx4"w candle. A sheer cranberry ribbon is tied 4 inches down from the top of the Hurricane Jar edge and a pewter heart locket is dangling from the bow.
My question is this – I’ve tried both a cranberry colored/scented candle and an offwhite vanilla candle in the center and can’t decide which to use! Seems like a minor issue, but I really don’t know which to go with. I love the scent of the cranberry, and the look of it. But the offwhite would probably give off more light in the room, right? We have five tables and each one will have 6 smaller offwhite votive candles tied with a sheer cranberry ribbon and a pewter heart hotglued on the ribbon surrounding the Hurricane centerpiece to give more candlelight to the room. The banquet room also has a fireplace that will be lit and the mantle will have 12 votive candles lining it, with two 4′ christmas trees with white twinkly lights on each side of the hearth. We are renewing our wedding vows in front of the fireplace.
Anyhow…any ideas on which candle to use? I’ll go with the majority vote! ![]()
Either will be pretty but you cannot use scented candles around food without making people sick from the combination of the perfumes used and food scents.
I would go with the offwhite. It will compliment the cranberries inside, where the other candle may just make the berries blend in. Plus, you may get a slight fragrance off the berries themselves and would create a wonderful combo. It would also help tie in the other candles. And if you have cranberry ribbon on all of them, cranberry candle could be overkill.
It will also bring lightness to both dark colors (bean/berries)and make the ribbon stand out more.
off white and cranberry
Hi. Sounds very pretty!!
I would go with the off white AND I would also go with UNSCENTED!!
A question about scented candles was asked a while back, and someone mentioned NOT to have scented candles mixed with food odors…..it’s not a good mix. As for me, I do like scented candles….but only for a while! Then, I really start getting sick from the smell. It sounds like a minor thing, but it can get overwhelming!
Anyway, love your ideas, but my suggestion would be to use the off white colored candles UNSCENTED.
if you don’t mind my saying so i would strongly suggest you don’t use the scented candles.
i am one of many folks with asthma and other respiratory issues. and like many many folks i can not tolerate scented items of any kind. my hubby doesn’t use aftershave or colognes, all personal products have to be scent-free, and a scented candle is definitely guaranteed to send me into an asthma attack. its quite a frightening situation for the person having the attack as well as though witnessing one.
you don’t want to end up with paramedics and such at your beautiful ceremony.
so, i would suggest that you use the cream or off-white candles which will throw a beautiful romantic light and look so very pretty with your cranberry ribbons and pewter hearts. it sounds lovely. good luck with it all!
PLEASE NOTE:
Do not use scented candles on your tables when food is being served.. The scented candles messes with the taste and smell, so when they are eating there food.. is going to taste different.
