I will be getting married August 30 and will be lighting a candle in memory of my mother, grandparents, and my fiance’s grandmother. What can the preacher say before the candle lighting so people will know what is going on?
Talk to him/her.
They should know what to say or be able to write something
I did the same thing at my wedding. The minister had announce to everyone that we wanted to start off with the bride and groom to light a candle and then proceed with a moment of silence.
Add the memorial candle lighting ceremony to your program. Include the full names of the people who are being honored and their relationships to the bride and groom.
Personally, I’d keep this very low-key. Warn other family members beforehand that this is going to be happening so that no one starts sobbing at the thought of their beloved grandparent missing the ceremony. You really don’t want to surprise anyone with this.
